iMAC 2002, PLEASE HELP ME BYPASS the USER PASSWORD

I've got an old iMac 2002 system that has been password protected, and not one I've created. I've tried the whole, holding down control C with an OS X instal disk during the startup process (or whatever it was). And the end result remained constant... Enter the "User Password" screen. I was hope'n there'd be a simple solution to this problem. Are there any reinstallation, reboot, or system over-ride disks available that I'd need to get? Is it possible for me to expose and access any of the internal hardware that could be tweaked or replaced if the iMac shell case was removed? I am very uneducated and unfamilliar with anything that's " MAC " related so even if the suggestion/solution were to be, "throw it away cuz its junk"... that too would be helpful. Thank You For Your Time.
