Who’s responsible for the Fireiwre 800 port?

I'd like to know the who the genius was who approved the new Firewire 800 port on the Macbook Pro? I have had my Macbook since July 2009, and have so far grudgingly tolerated it's totally flawed design. When I bought it, I had to also buy the $30 converter cable to accommodate thius new port. It is such an ongoing, bewildering nuisance, I finally have to reach out for a broader reaction, or is it just me?

This port is horrible, and seems to be a major step backward. Why? The connection is always loose, the cable wiggles and my drive spontaneously and randomly unmounts/ ejects. The previous port provided a solid and stable connection between drive and computer. However now, every time I shift my laptop around, move it from one table to another (for example), the drive unmounts because the cable jiggles loose and disconnnects.

I am totally baffled, this is a major flaw. Is there any wider opinion on this?

Grrrr....
