I've encountered newer versions of software on the PC not being as fast as earlier versions. But, up until now, that was never a problem with Mac software. I listen to a lot of music. So, when I first got into iTunes, I enjoyed how fast it launched, displayed and played 30 seconds of any song I wanted to audition. But, ever since I upgraded to version 9, it is slow as molasses. In 9, I have never been able to hear a 30 second song clip play from start to finish without it stopping and waiting for the audio stream to catch up.

First, I thought the fact that I'm still running Leopard might have been an issue. But, then I bought a second hand Macbook that is running SnowLeopard and iTunes 9 is slow on that computer, too.

Not that it matters (since my existing internet set up ran iTunes 8 just fine), but I've got a DSL line from AT&T.

Any thoughts on this?

Why No "Delete" Button on iTunes Song "Info" Pane?

If I highlight a song in iTunes and click "Command-I" it opens an information pane about the song. If I click the "Summary" tab I get useful info about such things as the type of sound file and the bit rate. I can move sequentially from one song to another by clicking the "Previous" or "Next" buttons, which allows me to compare the quality and location of duplicate songs I may have in my library.

I don't understand why Apple has not included a "Delete" button here so I can remove duplicates quickly because, for example, they may have too low a bit rate for my listening pleasure.

Anyone know if there's a script to add this function?

Thanks,

I have a dual G5 tower that was running server 10.5.7. There are two drives with a raid mirror configuration.

When I did a software update to 10.5.8, the machine would no longer boot.

It did boot off of the DVD, so I took it to the Genius Bar and they found the raid broken and did something to make it boot. But the raid was not active, but that is ok.

The boot drive was then at 10.5.8 so the update must have worked, but the mirror drive showed 10.5.7. his was probably the problem.

I unplugged the mirror drive so no interference would occur. It booted fine.

Like a fool I tried another update: Quicktime, iTunes and a security Update for 10.5.8

Now it again won't boot.

I am not server trained not a Unix guy, so I am struggling.

Any advice of what to do or where to go for answers or information?

The Genius bar folks don't want to support Server software problems!

Thanks,
