Trying to re install Lexmark E120n and Epson CX6600 printers on iBook G4 with OS X 10.4.11

iBook acquires correct IP address for the Lexmark E120n when wired or wireless to home network (TP-Link TL-WR741ND router), correct drivers are listed in printer set up utility but when the "Add" button is clicked to finish the install the error message "An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer" "server-error-service unavailable" appears.

I get the same message when trying to install both printers via USB. Both of these printers as well as a portable HP DeskJet 450 connected via Bluetooth and USB have previously worked without issue on this iBook.

The networked (wireless/wired) Lexmark E120n currently works with another iBook G4 10.4.11 as well as several Windows (98SE, XP Home SP3 and 2 Vista Home Premium SP2) machines as with the Epson CX6600 and the HP Deskjet 450 portable via USB.

Any help would be appriciated

Hello all,

My 8-year-old godson just got a refurbished iBook for his birthday (I posted about it in the "hardware" section) and he can connect to the internet via ethernet, but not wirelessly. The seller told us it has a new airport card, so I don't think that's the problem.

I did notice, though, that the security type the iBook recognizes is WEP, and the security the brand new iMac with Time Capsule, the base station, has is WPA2. Will the discrepancy prevent him from connecting wirelessly? If so, what can we do about it?

I made sure his airport software is up to date, and it is. Also, I tried to change the security on the Time Capsule base station from WPA2 to WEP, but it can't use WEP.

Is there any way to fix it?

Thanks

Hello everyone,

My 8-year-old godson just got an iBook for his birthday. It runs pretty well, but the internet is a little slow. Is this a memory issue? Here are the specs:

iBook 3G
10GB hard drive
500 MHz processor
128MB RAM
Mac OS 10.4

Will upgrading the memory help the internet run a little faster? Is there anything else I should do to upgrade the system as a whole? I thought about upgrading the hard drive, but it looks much more difficult on the iBook than on the MacBook, which is what I have. He might be able to use an external hard drive because as of now, he's just using the computer for the internet and not for downloading.

I appreciate any advice at all on upgrading, thanks!

I have an iBook G3 900MHz 32VRAM 640MB, and I want to get the OS 9.2.2 working right. These things have to be 9.2.2 right from the install disc, you can't use 9.0, 9.0.4, 9.1, or even 9.2.1.

I got off eBay the system restore discs (grey) that say "iBook" on them and the install discs, but while it works okay the monitor displays 640x480 size at 1024x768 resoultion (those who know will know what I'm talking about).

Apparently this is a well-known problem, and I'd like to rectify it -- I heard that the Mac OS ROM file in the System Folder is the key file here -- what do I need to do to fix this issue? Even Mac OS Jaguar 10.2 displays a heavily distorted screen on the install procedure, but when completed it's fine.

No firmware upgrade is needed (or available), I've done PRAM and NVRAM resets, and nothing to avail.

Apple Hardware Test shows me code "Fire/3/10014", and I do have problems with reliable connection to my Firewire 250GB USB 2.0/Firewire 800 drive. No Google searches reveal anything.

Thanks guys!

Well, I give up. I am using an ibook G4 with Leopard and Mac Mail. I have two gmail accounts set up on my ibook, one for me and one for my wife. Both have worked flawlessly through Gmail. Recently, although my wife's account can receive emails, she cannot sent out email as 'can't use this server' message comes up and it appears at that point that her account is offline. All accounts are online according to that option in the Mail menu. Both accounts are set up exactly the same using the same gmail outgoing server smtp.gmail.com:gmail email address. If I change the out going server to mine ie,smtp.gmail.com:my gmail email address then the message will go.(although any relies will come to me rather than her).
What have I done? Repaired permissions, used Onyx, deleted the mail prefs and re-entered new email accounts for both of us (actually "started all over again").

Her account works fine via her iPhone so the problem seems to be with my iBook in some manner..

Any ideas heartily welcomed!

Hi:

I have seen various responses to this query of mine, but can someone give me a definitive answer? Can OSX leopard run on an iBook G4? I understand the G4 is PPC and Leopard/Snow Leopard is Intel based. Some have said yes, some have said no.

I am checking out a used iBook for a friend, and am wondering if it is a smart buy at $300, or if it is limited in the number of programs/versions of programs it can run.

Thanks all.
