In an article for Macworld, Ted discussed different security for Macs to achieve maximum download speed. He said WPA2 Personal was the security to use. My Netgear router has WPA2-PSK(AES). Is that the same thing? It also offers WPA-PSK (TKIP) + WPA2-PSK(AES). Will that allow top speed?
Thanks for your help.

hey Martian

this is regarding a very old post of yours regarding pppoe connection using airport

well mine is a tricky issue
it involves pppoe and plus it involves a static ip also wht the scene is i will describe it to u

here we have 2 facilities on a single connection..my internet is connected through a pppoe connection + on tht there is a lan server which works on a static ip

now i have a netgear router with which i am connecting my mac leopard desktop as a wired connection then i have a windows desktop which is conencted using a wireless connection and then i have my nokia E90 communicator which is connected using a wireless connection.....also i dont have a DSL modem the network cable is directly plugged into the wall

NOW COMES THE PROBLEM

my isp tells me to put the static ip on the router with the subnet mask and the gateway and then tells me to setup a pppoe connection on my mac which i did in the network preferences nad i put in my username and password and the service name whcih was required now wht is happ is tht if i use this configuration of putting the static ip on the router and then try to connect using the pppoe connection on the mac it tells me pppoe server not found .....now when i bypass the router and when i connect the ethernet cable directly from the wall to the ethernet port on the computer with the same settings tht are already seton the mac the pppoe gets connected within a second however with the router in between it doesnt

whereas now on my windows xp pc the other desktop works using the same above configuration ie:- static ip on router and pppoe set on the computer

now if i go to the router homepage and if i set my router as pppoe there my net will get connected on the mac and on my cell also but then i am not able to use the lan server

have tried a lot of settings any settings tht come in ur mind Netgear router WGR614 v9

Please Help

I have a new Macbook Pro that I cannot get to connect to my Netgear WGR614v7 wireless router utilizing the built-in Airport. When I try to connect, whether I have the security enabled on the router or not, it tries to connect and eventually tells me "Connection Timeout." When I use my other laptop (a Macbook), I can connect with no problem. Using my MBP, I can connect wirelessly at other locations, and I can connect at home using a network cable. So there seems to be some sort of disconnect between my Netgear router and my Macbook Pro. Does anyone else have this problem?

Please advise.

I work in a small Business Scenario - 5 Mac Pros in the office - all running Leopard.
The Office is behind 2 Firewalls.
At home I have a Mac Mini.
I have been experimenting with different methods of connecting to the office using Leopards built in screensharing.
I referred to Portforward.com and followed the instructions to open the common VNC ports on my router.
I opened 5900 on my Netgear router and I currently have it going to my local machine which uses 192.168.0.8.
I use the "Connect to Server" option ans just type in my external
IP.This works fine. I am able to connect, and the speed is fairly
decent.
My problem however revolves around connecting the the other
4 Computers. When I try to use other Ports I cannot connect at all. For
Example I followed the exact same steps I used for Port 5900 to be
forwarded - example: 5901 to Local IP 192.168.0.4
- and I use "Connect to server" I put external IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5901.
No Luck. I cannot get a connection to the other 4 Computers. I only
seem to be getting it to work to the 1 computer I have 5900 forwarding
to.

Any advise you can give is appreciated.
Also going forward is there a way to get this to work in a more secure way? Maybe through SSH?
