I have a new Mac mini that came with OS X server on it. I phoned apple and they told me I could install OS X on it if I wanted to get rid of the server.

I purchased a copy of OS X and it will not install over OS X Server. I phoned apple and spoke to someone in their enterprise area who tells me this cannot be done with purchased OS X software. He said I need to get a copy of an Install disc that comes with the current Mac Mini and not the Mac Mini Server. I asked if I could buy one and he said no. He then went on to say that if I could find one "anywhere" it would work.

I have googled and not had any luck, does anyone know where I can download an image of the current Mac Mini install disk?

Thank you.

I am using a remote desktop procedure (RDP) from Microsoft to access my trading accounts. The vehicle is 'Windows server 2003' and I have my executing (platform) software on a server in Atlanta, which I use to get to my live accounts in Australia. The platform for my software is Metatrader 4, another Windows based application.
My specific problem is: many, and I mean MANY of the commands I need to use are only accessible via a Windows 'right click'. Prior to updating to Snow Leopard, and switching brokers I had some success with Command-Click from the trackpad. since then, however..Nothing.. Even after I bought a mouse (Logitech).
Anybody have any solutions?

Now that Now Software is dead, my wife's business is eventually going to need some new calendar software, if for no other reason than that they can't buy any more serial numbers if they need to. So, I'm looking for a replacement.

They currently have 19 different calendars set up in NUtD, and most people have read-only access to the calendars. A few key people who handle scheduling have write access, and these people are not tech folks... learning something new will be a challenge for them, much less something difficult to use! Also, unfortunately, the majority of the folks in the office have Windows Vista PCs... one of the great strengths of NUtD was that it worked pretty well cross-platform. I've currently got it set up to run the calendar server on a headless Mac Mini sitting in a closet.

Anybody have any ideas what I can replace this with? Note that they'd be willing to buy a newer Mini to be able to run SL (or SL Server) if that is necessary, but I'd rather not have to run a PC server, as I know nothing about that sort of thing.

Hello!
It takes a few minutes (2-5) to log in to server Open Directory from iMac by local 100mb/s network. How can I solve this problem?

I have an Mac Pro with Mac X Server and many iMacs (all are Snow Leopard).
I've installed a server, created in OD a few new accounts and made share points (desktop, documents and home folder). For test server and client have been united in new network without anything else. Problem still remains.
On server itself only logging by admin is normal. Other users do bad.
There is another symptom: server admin and workgroup manager also work too slow or fall down with error (server couldn't be opened, error -14002)
Server has been reinstalled for 2 times for trying to solve the problem.

Hey everyone,

I am running a small network with three computers running Snow Leopard, two of which are Macbook Pros and the third is an iMac. They are connected to a fourth Mac Mini running Snow Leopard Server. All of our work is done directly through the server. I have wanted to be able to search the contents of the server with Spotlight but it will not let me. I'm told it will search an external drive but Apple says nothing about using it to search a computer you are networked with. Is this possible? Anyone that has done this before, or knows how to do this, I would greatly appreciate an answer. Or even a confirmation that this is not possible. Thank you very much.

Hi,

I work in a small design studio of 5 macs each backing up locally and all using local files. We all have access to the internet via a wireless router.

We would like to begin using one machine as a file server (for better backup etc.) and have been looking at the Mac Mini Server for this. However, I am unsure exactly what the best setup would be for this as I am no network expert.

I imagine the Mac Mini Server would use its only ethernet port to connect to a Network Switch (such as a Netgear GS608 box) which would then in turn be connected to each Mac (via ethernet). Is this correct?

If so how then would the internet connection work? Would I then connect a router to the Netgear switch so that all connected machines could access the internet?

I hope someone could point me to a guide on how to do this!

I just got back to work after updating to 10.6.3 over the weekend. When I tried to upload a folder from my MacBook Pro to the server at the office, I was told that "The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items." This happens with any and all files . . . even though there are NO restrictions on the files (according to GET INFO). I can download files from the server to my Mac, and the IT administrator at the office tells me there are no restrictions at his end. Any help suggested?

I'm trying to write an automator workflow that will connect to a specified FTP server. I'm able to connect, but I am unable to write to it. However if I connect using FTP client software (like Cyberduck) I can write to the server. If I connect using "Go>Connect to Server" or Command-k, through the finder I can connect (and the first time it asked me for a username and password which I saved in my keychain) but I cannot write to it.
