Well my drives are full again. iPhoto won't let me download many more pictures because my built-in drive is full. I have a 500 GB Lacie external HD that I put my iTunes library on. Later when Time Machine came out, I sent the backup to that same external drive and now that is nearing capacity with all the backups over the last two years. I have since learned that it is not a good idea to have Time Machine back up to the same drive that has other data on it. So I'm wondering what my options are now. I didn't really want to purchase a whole new expensive drive right now. Maybe a small one for TM and keep my photos/music on my current one.

Anyone have better ideas?

On another topic, what is a good program to help me clean junk off of my computers. My laptop has been getting slow and all i really use it for is internet when I'm out of town.

Thanks,

Hello. I have a 500 GB Time Capsule that I was using as the back up location for my laptop's Time Maching. I recently bought an imac with a 1TB hard drive, so its seems pointless to back that up with a 500GB hard drive. I want to cahnge my time capsule from a back up location to a wireless hard drive, but I can't seem to figure out how to do it. Any help would be appreciated.

Oh, and is it possible to partition the hard drive, to use half as a pure wireless hard drive and the other half for time machine backus?

I upgraded to OS X 10.6 and restored my files and applications via my Time Machine backup. Since then, my Adobe CS3 (which I had installed prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard) will not work. After starting any Adobe CS3 application, I get the error "Licensing for This Product Has Stopped Working" and it immediately shuts down the application once I click OKAY. I purchased Adobe Acrobat 9.0 pro, only to experience the same problem.

I have read the Adobe forums and followed the "fixes", which none of them worked. I have contacted Adobe, which did nothing but refer me back to the forums that I had already followed. I have read various forums where others are having the same issue as I am. Some have gotten it to work with the fixes, for some, by pure luck, the application has started to work and others have resulted to wiping their hard drive and reinstalling every application and file, just to get Adobe working again.

I am very frustrated that I have spent my hard earned money on this expensive software that no longer works. I do not have the time to wipe my hard drive and reinstall everything, for the one application that does not work. Can someone please assist me?

Thank you.

Was wondering if anyone has had success using a NAS as a Time Machine drive. Western Digital's FAQs My link state that their My Book World Edition (White Light) will work if the latest firmware is installed on the NAS & OSX is updated. Amazon is selling a 2 TB WDH1NC20000N for under $200. I would like to partition the 2 TB and use one partition for TM backups for an intel iMac and intel Macbook, then use the other partition for common files and share the data between them. Any thoughts?

I am running 10.6.4 on a Mac Pro. I have an internal 1 Terabyte drive that I use for Time Machine backups of all my other drives I use. What happens is that the Time Machine drive gets unmounted frequently, several times a day. Sometimes it happens soon after Time Machine runs and sometimes, it seems, it does not get remounted after sleeping (or monitor sleep as well). I do have 'Put hardware disks asleep' checked in Energy Saver and I do want them to be slept. I do not think this is the issue, however, because I have 2 other internal drives that do not get unmounted at all.

To fix it, I have to open up Disk Utility and remount it from there. It is starting to mess with my backups since it stays unmounted unless I restart or remount it (and I hardly ever restart).

Has anyone seen this and know of a fix? Searches on Google, Macfixit, and here have come up with nothing.

I can mount a network drive (shared second drive on a computer running OS 10.4.11) on OS 10.4.11 and even on OS 9.2.2. However, when I try to mount that same drive on the desktop of a computer running OS 10.5.6 all I get is a window with contents but it does not mount.

What I am trying to do is set up Time Machine on an OS 10.5.6 computer to use a shared network drive for a backup drive. Time Machine will recognize an external Firewire drive but I cannot get it to recognize this shared backup drive because I cannot get the drive to mount on the desktop. When I GO TO SERVER for this drive, I get a window on the desktop with its contents, but it will not mount an icon on the desk top. Since it will not mount an icon, Time Machine does not recognize it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This is a question more than a problem. I have an iMac that was backing up to Time Capsule. I needed the Time Capsule for other computers so I purchase an external hard drive, formatted it for MacOS Journaled and used it for the target for Time Machine from the iMac. It seems to be working ok. What I don't understand is that when I open the external hard drive the data seems to be in a folder called Backups.backupdb, whereas in Time Capsule the date seems to be in a "sparse bundle". Why would it be different? I really don't want the old sparse bundle backups but am curious what would have happened had I moved them to the new hard drive. Even though I need the space on the Time Capsule for other computers I haven't had the courage yet to trash the sparse bundle-apparently when dragged to trash it is permanently lost. If anyone has a handle on all this I'd appreciate the education. Thanks.
